Profile Summary
MSDS Authors are responsible for assessing product compositions or chemical formulations, researching hazards and properties of the components and from that determine appropriate hazard assessment according to country/region, for preparation of Material Safety Data Sheets. Current profile is for EU and North America including USA and Canada. However resources well experienced in only EU geography regulations can be considered.
Required Expertise
Independently assess product compositions or chemical formulations to applicable country regulations
Research hazards and properties of components to make appropriate MSDS classification for global regulations
Determine appropriate Hazard Assessments and MSDS phrases based on assessment
Acts as Project Manager for clients. Lead projects to completion
Build an authoring team to deliver overseas client authoring requirement. Actively work with team members to incorporate improvement projects
Mentor junior authors in Platform utilization and other system/tools
Create and format MSDS documents utilizing client suggested MSDS authoring platform
Review completed MSDSs
Desirable Expertise
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Life Sciences from reputed university
1–5 years prior MSDS authoring experience
Excellent analytical and written communication skills
Knowledge of prevalent MSDS authoring s/w SAP EH&S and/or MSDgen, WERCS; Knowledge of CHESAR and exposure to Chemical Safety Reports for ECHA is a plus
Knowledge of emsds (REACH SDS) and CLP review is a plus
Knowledge of chemical compounds, families, and pharmaceutical products. Knowledge of active versus inactive ingredients in respect to physical form, volume, hazards
We are considering your profile for the position of Chemical Database Specialist.
Responsibilities
Responsible to capture chemical information from new/existing regulations
Researching and updating Client Chemical family databases
Contribute scientific expertise to consulting work related to Cosmetics/Food Contact projects
Documentation in compliance with ISO 9001 quality management system
Participating in continuous process improvement initiatives
Complete all responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field required
Strong foundation in organic, inorganic, and reaction chemistry, including chemical nomenclature, structures, formulae, and families
2+ years’ experience in global chemical regulations and data management is preferred
Strong Commitment to Quality and Continuous Improvement
Strong professional discretion and scientific judgment required to make decisions regarding the identity of chemicals, the appropriateness of chemical families, and the representation of regulatory and scientific data in different database formats
Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment
